May Market 2019!

May 16, 2019

May Market
What an awesome day! Despite some cool, cloudy weather in the early morning, we were blessed with a great day. Over 2,000 people attended the event, similar to 2018, many for the first time. They were impressed with the size and scope of the event, with many commenting that they couldn’t believe how big it was. Another highlight of this years event was the significant contribution from senior students assisting on stalls. This was a great learning experience, especially in working with the public and counting change! A very special thank you to the students who performed musical items on the day – it really added to the experience.

I would also like to thank all the stall co-ordinators, who served selflessly for the whole day as well as in the lead-up and pack-up phases. In addition, thank you to the countless families who volunteered time on the day to support this important community event. Without your efforts, this day is not possible to run as successfully as it did. Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs Mal Schultz for co-ordinating her first May Market. Taking on such a role is a major effort in time and energy, and to her and her family, we say thank you.

The efforts on the day raised just over $24,000. Once costs for the venue and other items are taken out, we anticipate making a final figure for the college between $18,000 – $20,000. However, the lasting benefit of the day is the positive impression the wider Hamilton community has of the families and staff who serve the college. Many outside groups, including stall holders, commented on how friendly, well organised and popular the event was, and their desire to return next year. In addition, the event helps to connect families together with a shared experience of serving – which assists in building community. These are things money cannot buy and are more precious than the bottom line. Thank you all for your service.
