VCAL Work Placement
I’ve been working at Your Regional Butcher for a few weeks now. I have been most fortunate to secure an SBA (school-based apprenticeship). I work Tuesdays and Fridays. Like most people starting a new job, I have to learn the fundamentals. It started off with making and packaging savoury rissoles, you do not know how cold your hands get when you mix the spices and cheese together! When I served my first customer, she reminded me of my grandma. The cash register wasn’t a mystery to me as I have some experience in retail. I cut up and package many different flavours of sausages, and whip up some savoury pinwheels as well. Refilling the meat display is a daily task as well as bagging up some dog bones and cleaning. I’m really keen.
