HPV Tailem Bend – Round 4 Wrap

August 11, 2022

Last weekend, our HPV (Human Powered Vehicle) Senior Team headed to The Bend Motorsport Park, Tailem Bend, to take part in Round 4 of the Australian Human Powered Vehicle Super Series.

The team, with the support of some dedicated parent volunteers, used this additional race as an opportunity to take more responsibility in planning, organising and decision-making. The racers also practiced longer individual rides to test their endurance and competitiveness prior to the 24-hour race in Murray Bridge in September.

The 8-hour race commenced at 9 am on Saturday 6th August with 178 trikes on the grid.  Our team was composed of Joel, Austin, James, Hamish, Stephanie, Buick and Craig and had pit support from Matt Ackland, Paul Murrihy, Chris Parker and Victoria Easton. We achieved 63rd place out of 178 overall, and 19th out of 42 in the senior school category. Students assisted with servicing and race prepping the HPV trike, packing equipment, meal planning, timing laps, rider change-overs, and pit maintenance.

Students worked on improving their lap times, with many of them achieving track Personal Bests, plus a marked improvement in pit changeover times.

This valuable race experience will help the team prepare for the final of the Super Series which takes place in Murray Bridge on 24th and 25th September 2022. Both the senior and junior teams look forward to this big conclusion to the season.
