Regional Athletics – Primary

Tessa Verschuren (yr 4), Seamus McDonald (yr 4) and Leayla Pohl (yr 6) represented our school and the Hamilton District at the Regional Athletics Championships last Friday.

Tessa competed in three events, achieving great success: 6th in 100m, 2nd in Hurdles and 3rd in the 200m. Her second place qualifies Tessa for the State Championships in Melbourne!

Seamus competed in the Hurdles. He was unable to compete at the Divisional Championships due to a collarbone injury, but was able to run the Hurdles at Regionals, finishing in 2nd place, also qualifying for the State Championships!

After sustaining a hamstring injury at Divisionals, Leayla required a special invitation to compete at the Regional Championships and was granted this invitation for Long Jump and Triple Jump. Beating her nearest rival by over 50cm in the Long Jump and coming a clear First, Leayla jumped her way to State. She then competed in the Triple Jump, being awarded 2nd place for her efforts! Leayla is on her way to Melbourne in these two events!

This is a fantastic achievement from our three representatives. We are very proud of them! Tessa, Seamus and Leayla continue to be great ambassadors for our College.

Regional Athletics – Secondary

What an amazing day of results our Secondary students had last Thursday at The Regional Athletics Carnival in Ballarat. We had 13 students compete against “The Best in The West” (this side of Ballarat and Bendigo), and they came home with some big smiles.

We had so many of our students make it to the podium to receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd medallions. It was disappointing to hear that only the first placegetters made it to State level in Melbourne on Monday 17th October (Next week). Here are some of our incredible results:

    • Lachlan Rentsch – 1st Javelin, 2nd 100m*
    • Eli Pickett – 1st High Jump, 2nd Discuss*
    • Edwin Rentsch – 1st 1500m*
    • Nathaniel Schulz – 1st Hurdles, 4th 200m*
    • Lauchlon Saunders – 1st Hurdles*
    • Jacob Rentsch – 2nd Discuss
    • Sophie Rentsch – 3rd Javelin
    • Sophie Verschuren – 3rd Shot Put
    • Cooper Rentsch – 4th Javelin
    • Hamish Murrihy – 4th Discuss
    • Will Bester – 4th Long Jump
    • * = qualified for State Level

For those who cannot make it to Melbourne to watch our students, the School Sport Victoria (SSV) website has a livestream set up to watch from your device. This will be broadcast from 10:00am next Monday. Follow the link below: https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/Pages/NEWSSSVTrackandFieldLivestream2022.aspx
