Devotion – Promises

June 2, 2023

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. (Psalm 119:50, NIV)

These past few days have been a time of tragic loss and great sadness for our small community. Death is a hard pill to swallow at any time yet when it is a young person that pill is too large to even contemplate. Sadly, we will all experience loss at some stage in our lives and when we are in the depths of grief it is easy to sometimes wonder where God is through it all. When my nephew was tragically taken in an accident the one thing that helped us immensely was the love and support of our community. Through their love and compassion, we saw Jesus’ love and compassion. It was reassuring to know that in our deep grief, when we could not pray others were praying for us.

For our family God was everywhere, bringing people to us who loved and cared for us.

It was during the darkest of times that my sister found comfort knowing Jesus had her son in His care and that she would one day meet him again. For her, death was not the end, she held on to the promises of
Jesus that her son was not gone, he was just in another location. A glorious location where: “God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or
mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Rev 21: 1-4

During these sad days and weeks may the promises of Jesus fill our hearts with hope and may the love of God for us through the death and resurrection of His precious Son give us true peace.\
